The SEO-DWARF “Semantic EO Data Web Alert and Retrieval” project is highly related to the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (MSCA-RISE) funding. It covers the main objectives of the call, i.e. promotion of international and inter-sectoral collaboration through research and innovation staff exchanges, and sharing of knowledge and ideas from research to market for the advancement of science and the development of innovation. Also the proposed project is highly associated with the exploitation of Copernicus flagship EU project.
The scope of this project is to enhance the already provided Sentinel services by altering the form, content, or nature of the information, thereby adding value to it. In particular, we perform an analysis of the user needs and requirements regarding the semantic retrieval of EO data and how the retrieval and alerting could provide added value services on the Copernicus program and other EO programs. We aim to detect from EO images marine phenomena and we will use that information for improving the quality of services provided to users.
Example of oil spill phenomenon detection and retrieval
Many marine phenomena will be monitored by SEO-DWARS within the SEO-DWARF project:
- Hot spots
- Phytoplankton blooms
- Oil spills
- Trophic status index maps
- Shallow water bathymetry
The user will be able to ask to the system information about phenomena that concerns the marine domain in using only textual phrases in a colloquial language such as she is talking in a natural way with a physical domain specialist. The questions proposed to the systems will be elaborating real time (when possible) for retrieving accurate and user driven results.
